WITH CASEY LISTER

From the Author:
My name is Casey. I’m a cookbook author, journalist and garden writer with a big passion for making gardening easy, approachable, fun and delicious. I love growing my own herbs, fruits and vegetables, and I love to teach others how they can start growing their own food at home too. I find that we tend to make veggie gardening way harder than it needs to be, especially for beginners. I’m a lazy gardener in many ways, and over the years I have grown a garden that I can pick and eat from every day of the year.
Gardening kind of demands that you keep your body in shape – there is a lot of heavy lifting, a lot of digging, a lot of movement. Which is one of the things I love about it. But it’s easy to get a sore back or lift things in unsafe ways if you aren’t aware of your body. That’s what I have loved so much about MVMT pilates with Elise. It’s a mental workout as well as a physical one, because it teaches you how to intelligently use your body, to make it stronger, more flexible and, I suppose, a better tool to do all the things you love. Also Elise is just an all-round gorgeous person and I so admire her for the community she has created, and for all the love she pours into what she does.
Speaking of love poured into things, I am so excited to be able to combine forces with Elise and share another one of my passions – good food. I love to improvise recipes straight out of my garden, with whatever is fresh and in season. This love of fresh cooking and homegrown food is what inspired my cookbook, Seasoned. It’s filled with really simple and easy recipes that make the most out of whatever is in season, through summer, autumn, winter and spring.
Eating seasonally is such a great way to make sure that what you’re eating is as fresh and nutrient dense as it can be (bonus points if you’ve grown it yourself!). The recipes in Seasoned are vegan and vegetarian, packed with vegetables, fruits and herbs, healthy grains and nuts, and many are easily adaptable for people with gluten intolerances. I also believe food should be truly enjoyable, so you’ll also find cakes filled with fresh berries and spices, tarts packed with caramelised garlic and salads sprinkled with crunchy roasted nuts. All the good stuff. I hope you love the recipes as much as I loved creating them!
