ELISE

Elise Barlow is the proud owner and creator of The Movement Society, a Pilates empire based in Perth. She built her brand from the ground up and owes her success to being authentic, hardworking and genuinely obsessed. She wanted to disrupt the fitness industry, and share simple, smart and safe movement that people of every level and age could be successful with. Watching her clients movement transformations fuelled her fire to share the method worldwide.

Elise is an internationally Certified Pilates instructor and Polestar Pilates mentor. She is qualified and trained in both Mat and Studio Pilates.

Elise was a former high-performance Springboard and Platform Diver. She was the first ever diver to receive an individual scholarship to the Western Australian Institute of Sport. After retiring from Diving in 2005, Elise completed a Bachelor of Commerce at The University of Western Australia which led her to spend three years in Corporate and Investment Finance. She took the leap and followed her heart back to movement, commencing her Pilates training in 2012.

Why did you move from in-studio to purely online.

You can feel confident stepping into any classes in the library because my teaching approach is always layered with challenge. This means throughout the class I’ll give you options and invitations to progress. I’ll explain why and how the layer adds more challenge so you can choose to progress or stay with the more foundational variation. I’m a huge believer in keeping the workouts inclusive to all levels. The best part is that it gets better and better the more you do it. You are going to fall in love with how good movement makes you look, feel and function. I’m excited for you to get started.

Tell us about The Movement Society (MVMT) and the catalyst behind starting it

The Movement Society is an online Pilates platform that brings our unique method of Mat Pilates to women around the world. We specialise in movement for all levels and have members that are super fit and love an advanced, strong flow, to beginners wanting to be walked through the fundamentals. Our most recent addition is a really comprehensive (and love-filled) pre and post-natal offering. Being a new Mum, it was incredibly important the online platform had workout options for everybody, at every level, for every energy level and mood. You can transport to the studio and do a 60-minute pilates class, or squeeze a 10-minute quickie between naps or meetings. It’s instant access to great pilates content for movement lovers.

Tell us about your training

I have over 10 years experience teaching Pilates and have been formally trained in Mat and Studio. I think I spent the first 4 years of my teaching journey doing every continued education workout under the sun. I am such a big beliver in learning and evolving. The second 5 years I spend mastering my own method of Mat Pilates with props. 

Motherhood

I fell pregnant with my first baby boy Max 3 months after launching Movement Online. I’ve since had my second beautiful baby Boy Hugo. This huge life change of I know exactly what the pregnant body needs and postnatal body and how to do this effeciently from home.
